We have links with wider youth work and are committed to the work carried out by Pontypridd Christian Youth:
PCY* (Pontypridd Christian Youth) began in January of 1996 with the blessing of Pontypridd Christian Concern (PCC) and a number of local churches. The vision for PCY grew out of a desire to help stimulate and promote Christian commitment in our Pontypridd youth. Throughout the past year, 40+ young people have participated in PCY events. About 60 percent of the youth are affiliated with local churches. This year we will continue to offer quality activities and a place where young people can have clean, wholesome fun as well as Christian input. Our events take place on a Friday night and include Bible studies, socials and community service.
As PCY has grown, it has not always been easy to accommodate the large age span within PCY so occasionally we will split PCY for a specific activity. When PCY has a split event, it will either be split by interest or age.We try to keep the cost for activities minimal, but there are some events like ice skating or a weekend retreat that are more expensive. Youth are informed of the suggested cost of an activity and money is collected, but no one will be excluded from an activity because of the inability to pay for it. We have the privilege of using the PCC mini bus and will continue to do so. That, in addition to leaders’ vehicles, usually provides adequate transportation to away activities. Occasionally we will ask parents to assist with transportation. We will require a permission slip from each youth every time we have an away event. Youth without a permission slip will not be given transportation to the event. Our usual local venues are Rhydyfelin Methodist and Coedpenmaen Community Church (Trallwn).
Although PCY was created specifically for youth involved in Pontypridd churches, we welcome any comprehensive-aged youth interested in a wholesome lifestyle and a possible Christian commitment. We also encourage youth to invite their friends.
